The X6 is a car high-end SUV produced since 2008 by the German automaker BMW.

Throughout 2007 the press and events related to the automotive world have drawn attention to the fact that BMW was planning to soon launch a new SUV on the market of high class, derived from the X5's already established, but from which he differed from the tail to the body more elusive and the pavilion angle, so as to seem a kind of four-door coupe much raised from the ground. Just the new configuration of body "coupe-like" BMW has encouraged the leaders to coin a new name for the new type of car. Thus was born the acronym SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle), used to indicate the SUV with body profiled, precisely similar to that of a coupe. A precedent to this effect, however, had already had with the marketing of the Korean SsangYong Actyon, also equipped with a body "coupe-like." The launch takes place in March 2008: Due to the special shape of the body, the X6 (E71 project acronym) has virtually no competitors. The one that can be approached for general settings is the Porsche Cayenne, which, however, is also competing in the X5. In Italy the X6 is expected initially in four engines, all turbocharged, three 6-cylinder in-line and one with a V8:

• 3.0 petrol N54: 2979 cc, with twin turbocharger boost, maximum power of 306 hp at 5800 rpm / min and maximum speed of 240 km / h;
• 4.4 petrol N63B44: 4395 cc, with twin turbocharger boost, maximum power of 407 hp at 5500 rpm / min and maximum speed of 250 km / h (governed);
• 3.0 diesel M57TU2D30: 2993 cc, twin-turbo diesel common-rail 286 hp at 4400 rpm / min and maximum speed of 236 km / h;
• 3.0 diesel M57TUD30: 2993 cc common rail turbodiesel from 235 hp at 4000 rpm / min and maximum speed of 210 km / h.

One of the major innovations proposed by the device is still X6 xDrive, which is an electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential that downloads in a timely manner to the rear and front of engine torque depending on driving conditions, making the car more agile and more secure if emergency.

The German company believes strongly in this device, so it will fit in the official names of each model of the X6. Depending on the engine you have provided thus:

• X6 xDrive50i: 4.4-liter twin-turbo petrol;

XDrive is also coupled to the device DPC (Dynamic Performance Control), which works in direct symbiosis with the first and is able to limit the understeer of the car.

In 2009 began marketing to the European public of the Motorsport version of the SAV X5 and X6. These models, called x5m X6M and are equipped with a particularly driven by the 4.4-liter V8 engine with Twin Scroll turbo technology. This engine delivers 555 hp and is well matched to an automatic / sequential gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and six-speed. At about the same time, the X6 xDrive30d sees its power to spend 235 to 245 hp.
In the spring of 2010, the xDrive35i undergoes an upgrade: its engine is no longer a 3-liter twin-turbo, but used a single turbo, twin scroll but with technology and with the help of more Valvetronic. The power and torque were unchanged at 306 hp.

X6 ActiveHybrid
At the end of 2009, the X6 is placed on the market in hybrid version. This particular version, called ActiveHybrid is based on the xDrive50i version, which is held the powerful twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 and 407 hp, but that is specifically coupled to two electric motors, 86 and 91 hp respectively, but it does not work in series, for which the maximum power is not the result of the sum of the three engines, but it is less, and still far from being reduced. These engines have been developed in cooperation with Chrysler and General Motors, and are connected to a transmission scheme also unconventional, since the change, a 7-speed automatic also selectable via the levers on the steering wheel, among other things is four clutches connected by gears to the two electric motors described. The performances are outstanding: top speed is 236 km / h, but can also be brought to 250 km / h through the reprogramming of some parameters of the controller. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h requires only 5 "6 and the electric motors are capable, in conditions of full charge, pushing the car alone at 60 km / h top speed and 2.5 km away.
